Hi – My name is Andrew and I’m the guy behind Findaguide. I thought I’d briefly share my inspiration for this site so you can get a better concept of why it was put together.
I live on the Central Queensland coast and have a happy, healthy young family, a mortgage and a day job. No – it’s not in IT! Before settling down my wife and I did plenty of travelling, spending over three years on the road. We embraced a multitude of various jobs to continue with our travels and met an amazing amount of people. So we know what it’s like being out on the road and experiencing different things and different places.
Back in 06 I broke my ankle and being an active outdoor person the six weeks laid up really took its toll. I was determined that once I was back walking around I’d book a personal charter, most likely a fishing trip. So with the laptop I began searching around a few regions looking for something suitable.
Now like I said, I’m not a high end computer user but I can find my way around a browser, search engine etc. What really disappointed me was the amount of totally crap sites that just loaded up my poor pc with flashing ads, promotions, dead links, cheap flights, car hire, and link farms (whew!). I think you get the picture. After all this I couldn’t even find what I was looking for!
If I knew the name of the charter then that was fine – I could generally get a hit and continue to a website or article that described their service. Without the business name, I was just chasing dead info.
That started the concept – why not a simple site that within a few clicks you can find exactly what you’re looking for? I started doing a bit of research and during the course of this found that many smaller, owner operator ventures were being left out the equation because advertising costs were just too high.
During our travels we used a number of guides and went on quite a few tours. I wanted a site where everyone has an opportunity to be featured. That way, the public can make a decision on what they want to do and who they want to go with. Not just a few dominant companies.
For that reason, the pricing structure to feature on Findaguide is ridiculously affordable. And, if it is embraced by the tourism community the public will have access to a wide range of activities at their fingertips. More traffic equals more bookings. So you can see this isn’t put together by a high flying, IT professional working out the best way to stack his hundred dollar notes. It’s simple concept by someone who has done the hard yards and wants to make the journey easier for others.
However, don’t confuse simple with basic. The site is fully optimised and indexed for Australian and international search engines. I’ve managed to source some industry experts that are constantly working in the background to ensure the site reaches its full potential.
That aside, we are always open for comments. If you think we can make it better, send me an
Cheers!
